New Year’s Resolution – Protect your four-legged family member in the car with a dog seat belt. Enter to win a Kurgo Tru-Fit dog car harness or a Bergan dog car harness for your dog by entering the Rafflecopter entries below. Comment, like, and follow your way to a safer pet. Open to US entrants only. The contest ends on Sunday, January 20th at 11:59pm. One winner will be chosen at random on the 21st and announced between the 21st and 23rd. The winner can select from the available sizes of either a Kurgo Tru-Fit brand or Bergan brand dog seat belt.

Sephi is wearing the Kurgo dog car harness.

Maya is wearing a red Kurgo Tru-Fit car harness.

The Kurgo Tru-Fit brand uses a loop system tether. The seat belt of your car goes through the loop on the harness in order to secure your pet in the car. The loop system keeps your dog more secure. It doesn’t allow for your dog to move around much so if your dog will try to move around while wearing the Kurgo brand, he may get tangled in the loop system. This brand is best for dogs that simply like to sit or lay down in the car. The Kurgo harness is slightly padded. Red is shown above with our dog Maya but we only have black available at this time for this contest. BTW, Maya has to use a Bergan tether with her Kurgo harness because she does like to move around a lot in the car.

Pierson is wearing the Bergan dog car harness.

The Bergan tether attaches to the seat belt of your car.

The padded chest piece of the Bergan brand is a little longer than that of the Kurgo brand. The tether of the Bergan brand attaches directly to the seat belt webbing of your car. This allows your dog to move around more. The shorter you keep the tether (which is adjustable in length) the safer your dog. But if your dog likes to move around a lot despite the harness, the Bergan tether may be better for them than the Kurgo loop tether.

Both the Kurgo and the Bergan have been safety tested for strength. Feel free to check out their pages for more information on each brand – Kurgo and Bergan. If you are not a winner but would like to purchase a dog seat belt, feel free to use discount code petfriend for 10% off.

Thanks for entering!

  1. Carissa J:

My dog Sammie keeps trying to climb in the front when he rides in the car. Since he likes to move around a lot, I think we’d like to get the Bergan seat belt.

  2. Danielle E.:

My dog Wilson needs a harness as he travels with me most of the time often for long distances 1500 mile or trips and on trips around town which means freeway driving. We have a harness but It doesn’t fit well and I haven’t been able to find one at the store that really fit him well. I would chose Bergan because my dog does like to move around as he rides but the big choice for me would be what fits him best as that has been a problem for us.

  3. diane stana:

    what a wonderful idea 🙂

  4. sandy weinstein:

my youngest of the 3 girls, likes to sit in my lap when i drive. i know it is not safe. however, it keeps her from getting car sick though….i like the kurgo b/c of the fit, but i like the bergan b/c of the big padded chestplate. most of the time my 3 girls will sit still but sometimes they do like to move around.

  5. SephiAndMaya:

Sandy, Your dog probably doesn’t get car sick when she is in your lap because she can see out the window. Two things you can try besides a dog car harness is the Travel Calm spray, which also helps with car sickness, or a pet car booster seat. 🙂

  6. Theresa Spaid:

My dog kota ends up on top of my head when he sees a car coming from the other way and he jumps around too much. It would be a more relaxing drive when he has a harness on.

  7. Katie Amanda:

My pup needs a harness because he is constantly moving in the car. I like the durability of these products. Thanks!

  8. Trish B.:

My dog, Sunshine, needs a car harness as I believe in keeping my babies as safe as possible, even in the car. I had a Roadie harness but another one of my dogs, Lumpy, chewed it up and the other Roadie harness I have is too small for Sunshine. Plus, I really like the Improved Kurgo seat belt harnesses with the steel buckles. We do not have any skin children so I want my fur babies to be as safe as possible. My husband laughs and tells me that I do more research on things for the dogs (food, treats, supplements, car harnesses, etc) thank I do for myself! 🙂 Thank you!

  9. Dorothy Parungao:

I would choose the Bergan harness because my dogs like to move around in the car. In fact, the dog I am thinking of using this with was able to get out of her current harness while we were on the way to a vet appointment.

  10. KateV:

Either of these would be great for my dogs. They both have harnesses of another brand, but they have their problems. Shiloh likes to move around a lot- or rather spin in place and readjust himself. As the ‘loop’ part of his harness is very short, this means he twists the car seat belt around and around and it causes problems. The Kurgo one looks even longer than the one he has now so that would be great, but the Bergan would probably be best for him. Cheyenne is my older dog and doesn’t really move around in the car, but I’d love to have a safer, better fitting harness for her. Again either one would work much better for her, but Kurgo maybe the best? I’d *love* to win either one and test it on one of my pups, then purchase another for them =)

  11. Margie B:

I have a GSD that needs a dog harness to travel in the car with me. Her name is Angel and she is anything but the “perfect angel” in a car. She gets very anxious with much movement. I also am a firm believer that they are flying missles in an accident without a harness. I would like to keep my pet alive is something terrible were to happen with an accident. A harness would ensure them to be safely put out of harms way in the back seat…

  12. Mallory H.:

My dogs are always ALL over the car – a harness is a safety factory for them and me, so I won’t be distracted.

  13. Misty:

Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart dog car harness because of the broad padded chest plate for extra protection and comfort

  14. Rick:

I like the looks of the Bergan

  15. Nancy:

Kurgo Tru-Fit because I have a BIG dog.

  16. G:

I have eight dogs, three of which are rescues and tend to be a little more hyper in the car than my other dogs who would rather sleep, and since the three rescues are a sheltie, pit bull and chihuahua, I could use either harness and depending on which dog it was for would depend on which harness. I’ve used several harnesses in the past, most do not fit well or don’t secure like I want them to…..I really like both of these so would love to win either for one of my babies

  17. Jessica R.:

I’d choose Bergan because it looks like it would be more comfortable for my dogs and a little easier for me to handle.. They move around a lot and I don’t want them to get too excited and jump around out the window.

  18. Kelly Ann T.:

I would like the Kurgo because I want my dog to stay safely in the back seat. He wants to jump from the front to the back and that is not safe. I have a large dog and this harness seems to be comfortable for a big dog.

  19. Tara:

My dog jumps around a lot and wants to be in my lap while I drive. That is not safe at all and keeps me from taking her anywhere. Therefore, I think we’d travel a lot more if I had a harness for her. I think I would prefer the Kurgo because my dog is really broad chested.

  20. Lisa F.:

I would get the Bergan. Every dog needs to be secure in cars.

  21. Stephanie from CT:

to keep my dog safe in the car

  22. Nyssa:

Wish has broken my windshield before when someone slammed on their breaks in front of me after they cut me off. It has been on my list of things to get her. She’d need the Bergan though, she likes to look out the windows and move around.

  23. SephiAndMaya:

Ouch! I’m glad he’s okay. The Bergan is a good choice. It is comfortable and has a longer tether to allow him to move around.

  24. Heather Bridson:

I have two fiesty pugs, who love the car buy constantly try to get in everyone’s lap..climb over the steering wheeel while driving and just getting in the way. I’d love to try both kinds, something to keep them and everyone else safe while on the road.

  25. Shelly Skoog-Smith:

Roxy would need the Bergan… even though I have a hammock to keep her in the back seat she always falls through the side & ends up on the floor!

  26. Heather W:

We travel a lot and have to move every few years so a seat belt is a must for the dogs. I think the Bergan seat belt would be a better fit for our needs.

  27. Jennifer R:

My dog travels with me on a daily basis during school runs and I would love the Kurgo harness to help him feel more secure and not get tossed around in the seat as we go.

  28. Gizmo (@GizmoGeodog):

Gizmo likes to move around in the car and Iworry a bout him flying forward in case of a short stop…a car harness would be wonderful

  29. michelle dement:

my dog loves to ride in the car but he wont ride anywhere but in my lap so I had to stop letting him ride with me for his safety as well as mine and this is awesome product that would be great to let him continue riding in the car 🙂
