Thank goodness, it is another contest giveaway! Sorry, it is not a pet travel product this time. But it sure is cute. I have a few dog figurines left over from another website I used to run and thought it would be great to give some away. There are a total of five of these adorable shoe & dog figurines available, three brown and two black. They are each 4″ long, 7″ wide, and 5″ tall. The shoe has an opening in it so that you can put in some dirt and a small plant. This figurine can be used both indoors and out. These are a Land & Sea product.

ClickIt Utility Seat Belt for Dogs 1

Enter to win this ClickIt Utility seat belt for dogs.

Enter to Win the ClickIt Utility Pet Car Harness

Do you want to be one of the first people to try out the new ClickIt Utility seat belt for dogs from Sleepypod? Great! Just enter the Rafflecopter below.

This seat belt for dogs did not fail! It was the top performing pet car harness as conducted by the Center for Pet Safety and shown in their October 2013 report (see our post on October 3rd). The ClickIt Utility is unique in that it has a three point attachment system designed to keep your dog more stable in the event of a car accident. It has been crash tested at 30mph using a 75lb dog dummy. Watch the following crash test video to see how the ClickIt keeps your dog on the seat.

For other valuable safety information on this new products, visit our website’s ClickIt Utility pet car harnesses page and check out our post from September 28, 2013 to see how well it worked for my dog Maya.

Before you enter, make sure your dog is big enough to wear one. The extra-small and small sizes are really for smaller medium sized dogs. Sleepypod recommends that smaller dogs should be ride in a pet carrier such as their Sleepypod pet car seat.

To determine if your dog is big enough, measure around his chest and neck in a figure-8 as shown in the diagram below. Also, watch the following video. If your dog’s figure-8 measurement is less than 31 inches, then he is too small for the ClickIt Utility seat belt for dogs.

ClickIt Harness Sizing

Starting at the top, wrap the tape measure around your dog’s chest, then neck, in a figure-8.

Contest Rules and Guidelines:

1. Contest ends at 11:59pm October 31st, 2013.

2. Please don’t enter your dog in the contest if he is too small to fit the ClickIt Utility harness unless you plan to give it to a friend or donate it. See measuring instructions above.

3. The mailing address for the winner must be in the US. If you live outside the US but have a US shipping address or have someone in the US who will ship to you, then you may enter the contest.

4. One of the Rafflecopter entries will let you enter more than once. Multiple entries are permitted.

5. If you already like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter, you can simply indicate on the Rafflecopter for a valid entry.

6. Your Like and Follow must be active at the time of the drawing.

7. We will choose the winner using Random.org. The winner will be contacted via all methods provided such as email, Facebook message, and/or Twitter direct messaging. You have three business days to reply or another winner will be selected.

8. The ClickIt Utility has been so popular that most sizes and colors are out of stock by both us and Sleepypod. So your prize may not be sent until more are available in mid to late November.

Travel Calm Review for Fireworks

Travel Calm from Earth Heart

Travel Calm, a dog anxiety treatment to help traveling pets.

Travel Calm is a great product that helps dogs who are anxious about riding in the car. It helps dogs like my Labrador Maya who is super-excited about riding in the car. And it helps dogs that are nervous about riding in the car. But riding in the car is not the only stressful situation where Travel Calm can help. Here’s what Danielle has to say about it:

“Hello!

It’s been a while since I won your giveaway but we recently had the opportunity to use the travel calm that I won on your blog.  I have to say that I did not use it when traveling but found an even better use for it.  We have neighbors that are very inconsiderate and shoot off fireworks at all hours of the night.  My Sissy is very scared of them and she feels it necessary to be as close to me as possible…if she could get in my skin, I think she would!  I didn’t have anything to help calm her down so I tried some of the travel calm.  Let me tell you, it worked like a dream!  She stopped shaking and laid down next to me and was just content.  About 10 minutes later, she crawled over to her spot on the couch, got comfortable and fell asleep.  I have used it a few times since and it works great!  Thank you so much.  I have enclosed a picture.
Danielle M”
Dog Sissy and Travel Calm

Travel Calm helped Sissy remain calm while her neighbors shot fireworks.

I’m so happy that Sissy is doing so well despite the fireworks! We only have a little time and limited supply of Travel Calm left. Get yours today or tomorrow and we can ship you a bottle via USPS first class, which takes about 3 business days. If you wait until the weekend, we can ship first thing Monday, but it may or may not arrive by Wednesday, July 3rd.

Please don’t use this product as a way to take your dog with you when you go to see fireworks. Please leave your dog at home, inside, and safe during the festivities.

Our contest winner for the month of April has shared a photo of her Dachshund dog Daffy with her new prize.

Daffy the Dachshund in the Thundershirt

Daffy the Dachshund in her new Thundershirt!

Isn’t Daffy absolutely adorable!?! I just love that look on her face. It’s like she’s saying, “You seriously expect me to wear this… in public?” LOL!

The prize was actually a Bergan pet car barrier, but we saw in the comments that Daffy’s mom Amy made and thought perhaps she could use another prize instead. In Amy’s comments, she said her dogs rode in crates and that they bark and whine in the car. Since they are already riding safely in crates and can’t get to the front seats, what use is a pet car barrier? Perhaps the Thundershirt will help keep her dogs calm and quiet when they ride in the car.

Important note:  Our winner Amy did not ask us to exchange the prize. It was an offer that we made. In general, the prize in the contest is the one that is given away. It is solely at our discretion to offer an exchange for another product of comparable value. This month’s contest giveaway will likely be a dog car harness. If there is a different prize that you’d like to win, please let us know in comments here. We will be hosting the giveaway soon, so stop by again soon! 🙂

May 3, 2013

This is our first Follow Up Friday blog hop. It has been an interesting week for us so I thought we would share what’s going on.

Pierson and Snow in May

It’s a good thing Pierson hasn’t lost his winter coat yet, because it’s snowing in May!

Snow in May
It has been a strange week for weather. It was in the 80s Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday was in the 70s. Then Thursday it snowed! Poor Maya & Pierson don’t know whether to shed or grow more fur.

Maya in Snow in May

“Please let me wake up from this strange dream of snow in May.”

Canine Epilepsy
Pierson had a second seizure on Wednesday, May 1st. His first seizure was on January 10th of this year. Thankfully, his seizures were very short and don’t seem to happen often. The vet took some tests and was unable to determine the cause. This is a good thing, the vet says. It’s not head trauma, it’s not poison, and his blood tests came out normal. So he is just one of those dogs that have seizures. Seeing my pretty boy Pierson having a seizure is a scary thing, but seizures won’t shorten his life or lessen his quality of life. It is believed that dogs feel no pain during a seizure. And he gets back to his bouncy self within moments after the seizure.

Tomorrow for Pet Safety Saturday, I’m going to provide a link to an article I wrote in January about Pierson’s canine epilepsy. Be sure to stop by tomorrow.

Contest Winner
On a lighter note, Amy B. won the Bergan pet travel barrier. Congratulations Amy!

We will be holding another contest this month so stay tuned. What would you like to see in May’s giveaway contest?

Sharing Pet Safety Photos
You saw the Golden Doodle Spud’s photo earlier this week in his new Bergan dog car harness. Now we’ve seen a photo of another Doodle named Goldie wearing the Kurgo Tru-Fit pet car harness. We haven’t gotten permission to share the photo on our blog, but you can see it on DoodleKisses.

If you have photos of your dog riding in the car, share them with us. We’d love to post them here.

Teaching Pierson to Speak
I taught Pierson to speak last week. It was so easy that he learned it in one day. Two factors made it easy for him to learn: 1) Aussies are natural barkers, and 2) Aussies are super smart. I will hopefully have a video on American Dog Blog soon.

Does your dog try to climb in the
front seat when you drive?

Bergan Pet Travel Barrier

Help keep your dog in the back seat with the Bergan pet travel barrier.

Does your dog try to get in your lap?

If your dog won’t tolerate a pet seat belt or dog carrier, enter the contest giveaway to win a Bergan pet travel barrier.

Bergan makes a great car barrier that is easy to install. Simply wrap the straps around the headrest and seat body of the car. If you are wary about purchasing a dog car barrier made out of canvas cloth and netting material, enter our contest giveaway in the month of April for a chance to win one!

To enter, you must have a shipping address within the Continental US. We do not ship outside the US. If you meet this criteria, like our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter, tweet about the giveaway, and/or leave a blost post comment. You do not have to do all four entries, but each method gives you another chance to win. You can increase your chances of winning even more by tweeting about the giveaway once a day, every day.

This contest ends April 30th, 2013, 11:59PM EST. We will select a winner on May 1st or 2nd using Random.org. The winner will be notified by email, through Facebook, and/or Twitter. If the winner does not respond within three business days, we will select another winner.

If you’d like to go ahead and order a Bergan pet travel barrier, visit our site at PetAutoSafety.com/bergan-pet-travel-barrier. Please note, that the dog car barrier may not be effective in preventing determined dogs from getting in the front seat. Consider the size of your dog (smaller dogs are less likely to get over the barrier) and his tenacity. For our other pet travel supplies, start at the PetAutoSafety home page. Feel free to enter discount code, petfriend, for 10% off.

Good luck! 🙂

Labrador and Pet Travel Calm

Travel Calm really worked on my crazy Labrador Maya!

Do you all remember the video of my crazy Labrador Maya in the car? If you missed it, check it out HERE. Basically, my Maya LOVES to ride in the car. She is so excited about it that she whines and cries for the first 15 to 20 minute of every car ride. At first, it is cute. But, as you can imagine, it doesn’t take long to grate on the nerves. I wasn’t sure what to do about it until I came across this pet travel product from Earth Heart called Travel Calm.

Travel Calm is an herbal mist spray that you put on your dog’s outer ears or on their belly. You can also spray it on the fabric of your vehicle or on your dog seat cover or pet car seat. The natural herbal scents are supposed to help soothe your dog and calm him. It can work for excited dogs like my Maya and for nervous dogs.

Travel Calm from Earth Heart

With an upcoming road trip from Kansas to Texas with my dogs over the Thanksgiving weekend, I thought I would give this mist spray a try. I am super excited to say that the pet Travel Calm worked great! Maya may have whined once for one second, but that was it! You can see my review posted on December 1st, 2012. I was so happy with this product that our company purchased a bunch more for resale.

Pet Travel Calm is now available on PetAutoSafety.com. Plus we are giving away a free bottle at the end of March! Check out the Rafflecopter below and enter to win your free bottle of this great pet travel product. This contest giveaway is available to those with a shipping address in the continental US only. You do not have to enter in every category on the Rafflecopter but each category you enter gives you another chance to win. The contest ends at 11:59pm CST on March 31t, 2013. A winner will be chosen on or around April 1st… Maybe we will do it on April 2nd so that you don’t think our email saying you’re a winner is an April Fools’ joke! 😀
